Lover Unbound(Black Dagger Brotherhood #5) by J.R. Ward

5 Stars

The ruthless and brilliant brother Vishous possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that does not include her...

I couldn't put this book down! J.R. Ward had me drawn in within the first chapter. You meet Jane when she's just a young girl, and see she lives a secluded life. One night her and her little sister, Hannah, decide to play with a Ouija board. When she asks who will she marry the board answers "Vishous". That had me right there! I couldn't wait for them to meet and for her to realize that he was the man she was destined to marry!!
Vishous gets shot in the alley and is taken to a human hospital where Jane is his surgeon and saves his life. When he comes to the first thing he hears is her voice and he immediately is drawn to her like a bonded male. Which scares him since he's the most untrusting of the Brothers.
He then has his Brothers kidnap her when they come to evacuate him from the hospital.
At first Jane is scared but of course, she eventually falls in love.
Vishous later finds out he is the son of the none other-Scribe Virgin!!! And it turns out he is supposed to be the Primale. Thankfully things get worked out, but the worse happens...Jane is shot and killed.
I was totally happy with the book until the VERY end. The way J.R. Ward brings Jane back into the story is just weird and crazy! Didn't make any sense to me. But hey, Vishous is happy so I am happy! :)
So ready to start the next book!

Lover Revealed(Black Dagger Brotherhood #4) by J.R. Ward

4 Stars

Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard living, ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world to engage in the turf war with the lessers. He's got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, Marissa, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. If he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers... When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead but found by a miracle, the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him...

I think we all knew from book 1 Marissa and Butch were going to have a great romance. But honestly it makes me so sad. Knowing Vishous and Butch have such a great bromance together, and that Vishous is feeling the way he does about Butch now, that could've been a GREAT romance novel all by itself! Two Brothers from the Brotherhood together? Heck yes!!! But, like I said, it's Marissa that Butch ends with. In this book you will learn more about Butch's back ground, what the Omega has done to his body, his new power, and see him go through the transition! The transition?! YES! They turn him into a vampire! Of course that means he has vampire blood in him, and you'll be shocked when you find out who's bloodline he comes from!
This book was really a good one!! You start to learn more about Vishous as well and really start to feel for him.
I cannot say enough how much I recommend this series!!!

Lover Awakened(Black Dagger Brotherhood #3) by J.R. Ward

5 Stars

A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion and terror his only passion—until he rescues a beautiful female from the evil Lessening Society.
Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for each other begins to overtake them, Zsadist’s thirst for vengeance against Bella’s tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past and find a future with her....

Finally!!! This book sucked me in from the very beginning til the very end! Zsadist has been the one Brother that I was most curious about since the first book and I was so happy to see that this book followed his story.
Zsadist was raised as a blood/sex slave and that past has haunted him his whole life. Made him dark, scary, and down right dangerous. Until he meets Bella. She finally starts cracking open Zsadist. Gets him to open up more. And eventually he falls in love with her.

It took me awhile to read the first book of the series and the second book was better, but this one is great!!! If you get stuck trying to read the first, don't give up!! It'll be worth it just to read this particular book! You will care for him and want to be the one there to help him.
Yes I know this was a short review, but I really want to not give away TOO much so it won't be ruined for you! I promise, it's a great read!

This book contains Winter's Passage, Summer's Crossing and Iron Prophecies. Yes Winter's Passage and Summer's Crossing has already been released on eBook but I was so glad to see it put all into one book. I definitely had to buy it just to read Iron Prophecies. I am a huge fan of the Iron Fey Series and love all the novellas. I was just happy to have this to add to my collection!
I think Iron Prophecies is a must read. It gives us more insight to who Meaghan is now as Queen and some insight into The Lost Prince.
Also this book has extra stuff that I loved. A guide of the NeverNever and a glossary of all the characters in the series.
I can't wait til The Lost Prince is released!!!!

Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood #2) by J.R. Ward

4 Stars

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover—for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.
Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships, is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. Her faith in miracles was lost years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves…

You see that 4 Stars? Yep, I must say..the second book was better than the first! I was afraid I was going to be reading this book for a couple of weeks like the first one but nope, half way through it really drew me in! I also have fallen in love with Rhage! I think I'm starting to see a pattern with these books, each one tells the story of a different Brother? I'm thinking that's how it'll be. In the first one we hear how Wrath, the Blind King, meets his shellan. In this one we read how Rhage finally falls in love-with a human!

Yes a human!! The forbidden! Thankfully after a few words his Brothers come to an understanding and let him bring the human to their home.
Mary is a simple lady living on her own. You start out learning that Mary has gone through chemo for her cancer and is currently in remission, until a couple of chapters in she starts to figure out the cancer is back. I won't tell you how she meets Rhage because that'll give away too much, but she meets him and her voice instantly soothes him.
Rhage is a Brother who sleeps with a different human every night even though he hates it. He only does it to keep the Beast that's inside of him at bay.
You will read all about their struggles to have a relationship. It's a great story.
I have read many reviews with people thinking Mary wasn't "good enough" for Rhage, with her having flaws on her body from her treatments and her being infertile. But honestly I think that just shows you can't help who you fall in love with! I also think it shows he's a great man for over looking all that and still loving her the way she is.
Ok, I'm getting off point. Rhage will be giving a big sacrifice at the end, a sacrifice so big that it had me in tears while reading it! Which makes you fall in love with him even more!!!

I get this feeling the next book will be more focused on Zsadist. Which I'm super excited about since he's the most quiet but VERY dangerous of the Brotherhood.

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood Book 1) by J.R. Ward

3 Stars

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

I have no doubt that this series has some major fans. It's dark, dramatic, has romance, and the characters are like-able.
It starts off with Darius asking Wrath, the Blind King, to help his half-bred daughter through transition. Since Wrath is the last pure bred vampire he is sure Wrath would be strong enough to keep her alive through transition. Since Wrath is a loner and bit of an ass, he declines.
But when Darius is killed by lessers Wrath feels inclined to save his daughter.
When Wrath first sees Beth he is immediately drawn to her.
Through this book you start seeing a different side to Wrath and his brothers in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Beth coming into their lives is probably the best thing that could happen for them.
During this book you see the lessers trying to build up their numbers so they can wipe out the Brotherhood. At one point their even kidnap Beth to draw Wrath in so they can kill him. No, it doesn't work. Of course!

All in all it's a pretty good book. I've already started on book 2. But I will say it's yet another series that just doesn't suck me in. It took me about a week to finally finish this book! That's way too long for me! I am hoping it gets even better so maybe I'll go through the series quicker than I am expecting at this point.

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5 Stars

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Jennifer Armentrout has done it again! I must say Onyx was a big hit! I might even say I loved it more than Obsidian!
First off, I know some people don't care to read novellas and that's understandable, but I really suggest you read Shadows before going onto Onyx. Actually, I will say it's vital that you read Shadows before Onyx. If you don't some things just might not make sense to you.
The character development in this book is awesome. Katy was strong and heroic in Obsidian, but she is that and so much more in Onyx. We get to see a different side of Daemon. Yes he's still a sarcastic jerk but we get to see a softer and deeper side to him. It made me fall even more in love with his character.
In Onyx Katy starts realizing she has gained power, Luxen power. Her and Daemon don't really understand why until the "new kid", Blake, arrives into town. He finally lets out his secret, he's also a human that has been healed by a Luxen. And humans that are healed by Luxen are mutated. Some survive and some don't. But being a mutated human puts Katy, and all her friends, in big danger.
But the biggest and most unthinkable happens! Katy sees Bethany with the DOD! Which means Dawson may be alive!!
Katy and Daemon unlock many secrets in this book, and find some big surprises!
The end had me crying with sadness and joy.
Someone who they all loved and thought was gone forever, is back. And someone else they love dear, will be gone forever.

Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

3 Stars

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?

For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself - forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.

Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Just like the first two books of the serious Beautiful Chaos wasn't an easy read. I still wasn't sucked into the story, until the last couple of chapters. This whole series could be really great but the authors have the tendency to cram in so many details and secrets that after awhile you're confused. It has happened with every book! You don't fully understand everything until they finally start summarizing things in the last few chapters.

In this book the apocalypse has hit Gatlin after Lena had destroyed The Order when she claimed herself both Light and Dark. There's drought, hundred degree weather, lubbers everywhere, Caster's not having control of their magic and worst of all Ethan is losing himself..literally! He starts forgetting things. He can't remember phone numbers, memories, he stops liking chocolate milk and Amma's cooking(heaven forbid!) and has crazy dreams of himself falling to his death.
I do have to give them props for the ending, it actually makes me want to read the next book! Normally I will finish a series only because I'm stubborn and when I start something I will finish it, and these books have not left me excited and anxious to get the next one. I've been forcing myself to buy the next one. But SURPRISE, the end has me waiting for the next and final book Beautiful Redemption!
I will warn you, the end is sad! Lots of emotions going on, and a BIG sacrifice! I do hope they conclude this series well. We'll see.

Rachel Vincent's Autograph!

I should have posted this a long time ago! I totally didn't think about it. My friend was lucky enough to go to Rachel Vincent's book signing few months ago here in Texas. Unfortunately I couldn't go that day but she was sweet enough to get a copy signed for me! I was so excited and so grateful!! My first autographed book!!!! I'm so glad it was by one of my favorite authors! :) Thank you Jeannie for going through the trouble to get the book signed, and thank you Rachel Vincent for being kind enough to sign a book for me even though I couldn't make it!

Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

3 Stars

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

In this sequel to Beautiful Creatures Lena wasn't claimed on her 16th birthday. Everyone thought everything would be okay now. Except for the fact that Lena didn't go Dark, yet she didn't go Light either.
She is still mourning the death of her Uncle Macon, which she also blames herself for his death. This makes her depressed, which ends up depressing Ethan. She starts pulling away from him more and more until she eventually leaves town with another guy, who isn't Mortal. I didn't like that Lena seemed to become such a complaining heroine in this book. Ethan starts hearing another song "Seventeen Moons" and realizes something big is going to happen. He gets a new friend, Liv, who is a Keeper-in-Training. Ethan, Liv and our brave Link go out to find Lena to bring her home.
We find out a lot of surprises and twists in this book which was kind of exciting, yet exhausting. It was really hard to keep up with all the new secrets that were coming out.
I do like this series and it is a good story, but for some reason it never sucks me in. I was hoping it was just the first book but the same happened with the second book. I normally read books within a day or two. I am a fast reader! But this book took me two weeks to finish! Holy cow!
I don't know if the problem is there's just so much going on in the story or what. I know I'm not a huge fan of Ethan. Yes he's brave and mature, but the writing makes me feel like he's still a young kid. Also I really just don't like Lena. I wish Lena was more like Liv! They should make a book about Liv, Link, Ridley and Macon! They are the best parts of this whole book!

Leif by Abbi Glines

3 Stars

"She was mine. I owned her soul…until Death stole her heart."

This novella was fun to read since it was in Leif's POV, and it covered his POV for both Existence and Predestined. The problem for me was since it was covering both books and it's just a novella, it jumped from scene to scene. I guess another way to describe it is, it was very choppy. There wasn't very much extra about him though. The scenes mainly just went back over what was being said. The only thing extra that I learned was pretty much the few times he talked to his father about Pagan. Which all were pretty much the same. Leif asking for help and his father telling him to just take Pagan. That's why I gave it only 3 stars. It could've been better wrote. It could've given us more information about Leif like most novellas from other POV's do. Honestly, unless you're bored and want more of this story while waiting on book three, I don't really see the point in reading it.

Predestined by Abbi Glines

4 Stars

You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.

The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ‘ol Leif isn’t your average teenage boy. He isn’t even human. According to Death, Leif doesn’t have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but he’s still showing up in Pagan’s dreams... uninvited.

Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasn’t human. But he hadn’t worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagan’s soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagan’s soul won’t be easy but Pagan is his. And he’s already proven he’ll defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.

I really enjoyed Existence, but I gotta say Predestined is AMAZING! You get to see a lot more back story to the characters. The book flows well and can be read in a short sitting.
I was completely swooned by Dank in the first book but not so much this one. He spent very little time with Pagan. I did really love to see his interaction with Pagan's mother though.
I love how Abbi Glines gave us more insight into relation of Pagan, Wyatt and Miranda. You get to see bits of stories from their past.
I have to say I fell a bit more in love with Leif in this book. Which is good because I was upset with how little Leif was mentioned in book one. You get to see more into his past with Pagan and his life story. You find out his father is evil and Pagan's soul has been promised to Leif due to her mother asking a voodoo witch for help in saving Pagan when she was little and was going to die. Even with all that you start to feel sorry for Leif and care for him. Or at least I did.
What I thought was interesting is you find out Wyatt and Miranda's souls are soul mates. Also that Pagan's "soul mate" is her ex-boyfriend Jay, which I think we will see more of in book three!
All in all it was a great book! I will definitely be waiting for book three. At this moment I am reading "Leif", a novella that is set in Leif's POV. Exciting! I am also looking into more of Abbi Glines books!

Obsidian(A Lux Novel, Book 1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5 Stars

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

O.M.G!!! I must say, I think this will be my new favorite series!!!!! In Obsidian you meet Katy who moves to a small town with her mother. She is a book-a-holic and has her own book review blog, just like me! Her mother keeps bugging her about meeting people so she decides to ask the kids next door where the nearest store is. Guess who answers the door?! That's right, Daemon Black! He is handsome, too handsome, with bright out of this world green eyes and the perfect body. The only problem, he's a jerk! His twin sister Dee becomes fast friends with Katy, but Daemon doesn't like it. He tries everything to keep Katy away from his sister. Throughout this book you see Daemon being hot and cold with Katy. But deep down you can tell he has a huge thing for her. Katy of course is a strong girl but some how always ends up in trouble. Trouble that leads to Daemon constantly saving her life. Which eventually leads into him having to let his secret become revealed. Him and Dee(along with most of the whole town) are aliens! No human is supposed to know, ones that find out usually end up disappearing. Every time Dee or Daemon use their powers around a human it leaves a trace on the human, a trace only the Luxen(Daemon's species) and Arum(Luxen's enemies) can see. Of course Katy gets a trace a few times. Which leads Arum to finding her. In the end Katy saves Dee and Daemon from a Arum(which is very surprising to the Luxen), sacrificing her own life. Daemon ends up using his healing power to bring her back from the brink of death, which leads to them having a unbreakable bond. He finally admits his feelings to her but she thinks its only because of the bond, so she turns him down. Stupid! The book ends with him still trying to convince her they should be together.
If you get the book from amazon.com they have a few chapters in the back of the book in Daemon's POV. Great!!!!! Also a sneak peak into Onyx(Book 2).
Please make sure you read Shadows, the prequel. You can find it on your kindle. It explains a LOT and can help you understand Daemon's personality a lot more.
ENJOY! I know I did!!!!!

Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James

4 Stars

When unworldly student Anastasia Steele first encountered the driven and dazzling young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both of their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and, ultimately, repelled by Christian’s singular erotic tastes, Ana demands a deeper commitment. Determined to keep her, Christian agrees.

Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own identity. And Christian must overcome his compulsion to control as he wrestles with the demons of a tormented past.

Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

When we left the 2nd book Ana and Christian were newly engaged. We start this book during their honeymoon. They spend 3 glorious weeks of their honeymoon then they have to get home and back into the real world. Of course when they get back they start arguing over Christian's over protectiveness, as usual.
During this book Ana gets a little visit from Leila, which really upsets Christian(of course). On top of that Jack Hyde is out to get revenge for being fired. During all this the unthinkable(although I predicted it) happens! Anastasia misses a shot and ends up pregnant!! Shocker? Not to me! Of course Christian goes ballistic! While they are still upset with each other over his unexcusable behavior after he finds out about the pregnancy, Jack Hyde kidnaps Mia and blackmails Ana! Which means she had to lie to Christian and make him thinking she is leaving him with his money.
Of course, in the end everything comes back together! Christian and Anastasia are happy with their pregnancy, Kate and Elliot get engaged, Mia and Ethan are holding hands!
The very last chapter will jump ahead in time. This is where I end up giving only 4 stars. E.L. James made the chapter a bit too happy. It seemed as if Christian and Ana were living in a fairy tale! Again, unrealistic to me. If you're a parent, and you read this chapter, you're gonna think.."Yeah right!" Other than that it was a great story. I was happy with the trilogy! I definitely recommend everyone reading it!
**Especially if you want to spice up your love life ;)**

Shadows(Lux 0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

5 Stars

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

This was a great prequel to Obsidian. If you haven't read Obsidian yet please read this first! If you've already read Obsidian, then read this ASAP! It'll explain a lot!

I absolutely love Jennifer's way of writing. I was very happy that this story was told in different POV's. This story gives you a whole new understanding of why Daemon has such a hate for humans.
Dawson's character just makes your heart melt!
I was so glad to see the instant attraction between Dawson and Bethany, and yet they took their time with falling in love. Dawson would give up everything he knew for Bethany. I was really glad to see how Bethany wasn't scared or creeped out about Dawson and his family being aliens. Instead she found them beautiful!
The ending absolutely had me crying. I couldn't believe it ended that way but I had a suspicion it would.
I am so happy I found this series!! I would high recommend it to everyone! It's not the usual vampire or werewolf stories, it's all new. I was captivated from the beginning. Heck, the I was captivated just by the cover! ;)

Fifty Shades Darker by E L James

5 Stars

Daunted by the singular tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house.

But desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist. They rekindle their searing sensual affair, and Anastasia learns more about the harrowing past of her damaged, driven and demanding Fifty Shades.

While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her, and make the most important decision of her life.

This book is intended for mature audiences.

I must say, this is so much better than the first book! I don't think I've ever said that before.
Christian Grey decides to try a "vanilla" relationship with Anastasia Steele in the second book. It's so great to see a big intimidating man fall in love with Ana. He changes so much in this book.
Don't get me wrong, he still likes all the "kinky-fuckery" that he has always enjoyed. He just puts most of it aside for Ana.
During this book you have 2 problems. Ana's new boss is a pig that preys on young women at the job. Christian has taken over her business to keep an eye on her so he knows just how bad this man is and keeps warning Ana. But of course we find her getting almost attacked by her boss.
Second problem is Leila. Christian's ex-sub. She has left her husband and gone pretty much insane. Starts following Christian and Ana, vandalizes Ana's car, attacks Ana with a gun in her own apartment!
But the best part of the whole book is seeing their relationship grow. Christian even lets Ana touch him!!!!! There is one big part of the book that made me cry because it was unexpected and just so great! BUT, I won't spoil that for you! Read it!!!!!!

I will point out 2 things that I just don't care for in this series.
1. Ana's over use of the words "Oh my." Seriously, she is saying that in her mind all the time!
2. Even though it's hot as ever, they just have too much sex! It almost seems unrealistic! Sometimes they can't even get through a full meal without getting it on. I know most people probably love this the most about the book, but not me. I am more interested in the story.
I'm crazy, I know. :)

Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent

4 Stars

I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul.
The good news? He didn't get it.
The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school…
Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent "recovering," she's back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.
But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won't keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn't just gambling with her own life….

I gotta say my favorite thing about this book is Tod's relationship with Kaylee. He is so protective and devoted to her. I also was excited to see they finally said those three famous words to each other. Tod is my favorite character! I love his sarcasm. I really like how Vincent has portrayed Kaylee with learning her new life as being undead. I am so glad to see that Kaylee's dad still acted like a dad regardless of her dead status. After the many problems they had with Avari in the last few books I was worried that the new problem with Avari for this book wouldn't be so good, but I was worried over nothing!!

What I didn't like about this novel(reasons I gave it a 4 star, not 5) was how the school never seemed to notice anything when there have been so many students dropping dead on school grounds, and they are all linked in some way to Kaylee. Also the dagger Kaylee was given is very important. Why doesn't she keep it with her at all times?! The times she needs it most it's never with her. The least favorite thing was the parents had the whole gang stay home from school and spend the night at Kaylee's so they would be all together in case anything happened. Then decided to go spend a day at the lake for Kaylee's non-birthday. Of course problems show up at the lake and they all split up and the parents leave! What?!! Didn't make too much sense.

It was still a good book though, and I am so ready to read the final book of the series. I can't wait to see how Kaylee gets her revenge on Avari!

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

3 Stars

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I liked this book. There were interesting paranormal aspects and I like that there was a lot of family history. But that's just it, I liked it. It never grabbed me in. There were many slow parts and not enough page turner moments. With that, it was easy to put it down. Took me a couple of days longer to read than normal.

The setting of the story was great. The authors did a great job in that department. The two main characters were kind of flat. There wasn't too much to them. Pretty stereotypical I must say. Lena is the weird outsider and Ethan the jock with a good heart. I have to say the extras in the book were more interesting. I couldn't get enough of Macon Ravewood(Lena's uncle), Link(Ethan's comical best friend) or Ridley(Lena's Dark Caster cousin).

I think the weirdest thing about the book was Ridley and her lollipop. What was up with that?! She's a Dark Caster and every time she was doing dark magic she would be sucking on her lollipops. Ummm, ok. Maybe the authors should've explained about that.

All in all, it was an ok book. I am the type that really has to finish a series if I start one. But I gotta say I am debating if I should pick up the second book or not. I'll be thinking about it.
If anyone knows if it gets better or not, please let me know.

A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks

4 Stars

In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spends most of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore the impending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into acting the lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes in town: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the taunts of his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning some central lessons in life.

An oldie but a goodie! I have seen the movie years ago but always wondered how the book differed. I was surprised! There were many things that they had changed for the movie. But honestly, I loved the book more!!
It feels weird to write a review about a story that is already so well known, but I will anyway.
Landon Carter enjoyed dating and hanging out with friends and poking fun at Jamie Sullivan, the ministers daughter. Jamie Sullivan was always polite and carried a bible with her everywhere she went.
Landon Carter decided to join the drama club looking for a "free hour". Instead Jamie Sullivan convinced him to take the lead role. Which led into him having to spend more time with her. After different events he ends learning to like her, and eventually falling in love with her. You find out a big secret towards the end and that's where you need to bring out your tissues.
This love story is a great classic. It'll have you laughing, smiling, and crying.
I am so glad I decided to read the book even though I've already seen the movie. I would've missed out on a great story!!

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

5 Stars

Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students--children of the wealthy and powerful--carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.

Sydney has to pose as Jill's sister while they are in hiding at a school along with Eddie and Adrian(supposed brothers and Angeline(supposed cousin). Of course Sydney is known as the authoritative family member. In this book you will also see a lot of Dimitri from Vampire Academy, also Sonya.
During the book there are many relationship problems. While Jill is dating Micah, a human from school, Eddie is secretly in love with her. At the same time Angeline is very interested in Eddie.
Sydney finally gets a boyfriend(very unexpected), Brayden, who is as smart as she is. Being with him was comfortable considering they could talk about many things and the other will know exactly what they're saying. At the same time she spends a lot of time with Adrian. During the entire book you can start seeing Adrian falling for Sydney. But of course Sydney doesn't even notice until he finally tells her at the end. Which I thought was a great ending. Does Sydney love him back? Read the book and find out!

While all the love triangles are going on they have a bigger problem. The human Vampire Hunters are real! You'd be surprised to find out who's a part of the group too! The hunters believe Sonya is still Strigoi and is using magic to make her seem normal and they end up kidnapping her so they can kill her. Sydney does the unthinkable to find Sonya!

This book was great! I am so ready to read the 3rd book, which doesn't come out until 2013. Richelle Mead is very good at her work!

Rapture by Lauren Kate

5 Stars

The sky is dark with wings. . . .
Like sand through an hourglass, time is running out for Luce and Daniel. To stop Lucifer from erasing the past, they must find the place where the angels fell to earth.
Dark forces are after them, and Daniel doesn’t know if he can do this—live only to lose Luce again and again. Yet together they face an epic battle that will end with lifeless bodies . . . and angel dust. Great sacrifices are made. Hearts are destroyed.
And suddenly Luce knows what must happen. For she was meant to be with someone other than Daniel. The curse they’ve borne has always and only been about her—and the love she cast aside. The choice she makes now is the only one that truly matters. In the fight for Luce, who will win?
The astonishing conclusion to the FALLEN series. Heaven can’t wait any longer.

Rapture is the 4th book of the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. I have to admit I wasn't super in love with Fallen but each book got better and better. I have to say that I am very happy with the way Lauren Kate wrapped up the series.
It seemed every chapter had new answers to questions I've had since the first book. Which was good! The book made me cry different times, especially since some wonderful characters were killed off.
In this book Lucinda and Daniel must find the location of the original Fall and stop Lucifer. In order to find the spot of the Fall they must find 3 different objects that will give them the map. During this time Lucinda starts to remember lots of events from her and Daniel's past together, except how they originally met. Which will be revealed at the end of course, I huge twist in the story!!
A bitter sweet ending, definitely!!
In all this book had me on the edge of my seat and turning pages fast! I was very happy with the conclusion to this series. I absolutely love Lauren Kate's way of writing.
This series may be a re-read for me in the future!

Existence by Abbi Glines

4 Stars

What happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.
Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.
Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.
Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.
He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

Existence was an interesting story. You start with Pagan, a teenager who could always see wandering souls that never spoke to her until one finally speaks-Dank. Who you later find out isn't exactly a wandering soul, but is Death himself. Dank was supposed to come and take Pagan's soul instead he falls in love with her and saves her.  Which is breaking the rules and he must pay. Meanwhile she also starts dating Leif. (What are up with the odd names?) You get some insight of Leif at the beginning when you find out he was adopted, but after they start dating you don't get much more information. His character starts to get boring, all he does is become lovey and mushy.

Pagan finds out later that she must sacrifice herself so Dank won't spend the rest of eternity damned in Hell. At the end it seems everything is perfect until the last page. Of course a new problem pops up and it ends. Hence the sequel.

In all I found myself liking this book. It was a page turner for sure. I have to give it only 4 stars though due to the familiarity of it. It has reminded me a lot of a few other books I have recently read. I would really have loved there to be a different twist.
